 bugey-2 Nuclear Power Plant, France

Bugey nuclear power, France The Bugey nuclear power plant is a facility generating electricity consists of 5 nuclear reactors. 4 delos plant reactors are still in operation. The reactor of Unit 1 was closed on 27 May 1994 and currently is in the process of dismantling.

The nuclear plant is located in Bugey, France in Saint-Vulbas community, 65 km from the border of Switzerland. The plant was built next to the river Roine to use water for cooling.

The set of all the nuclear power plant occupies an area of 100 hectares. It approximately 1200 people work.

The four nuclear reactors currently in operation are of the type PWR ( pressurized water reactor). The reactor of unit 1 was the UNGG type.

Nuclear Reactor Type UNGG

The UNGG type nuclear reactor is an obsolete nuclear reactor designed in France

UNGG type reactors using natural uranium as nuclear fuel, the moderator was graphite and carbon dioxide refrigeraban by.

The UNGG reactor is the same type of nuclear reactor nuclear power plant Vandellos 1 in Spain. Currently, the unit 1 Vandellos nuclear plant is also being dismantled.

The reactor of unit 1 of Bugey was the last nuclear reactor was built UNGG type in the world.

Sitemas Cooling Bugey Nuclear Power Station

Reactor units 2 and 3 of the Bugey nuclear plant use river water for cooling Roine, while reactors 4 and 5 using cooling towers.

Nuclear Safety

According to reports by the French Nuclear Safety Authority, the Bugey nuclear power plant is not prepared to withstand the effects of an earthquake in the area. Originally it was not considered the risk of a nuclear accident because no record of significant seismic activities was in the area.

For this reason, in recent years the nuclear facility has been modernized to adapt to the standards of resistance to earthquakes.
